The formidable Bertie: rock'n'roll Valkyrie, magnificent mistress of ceremonies and vaudevillian Jill of all trades.
Bertie Page is a powerhouse of creative energy, a supernova on the Australian arts scene, a pandora's box of interdisciplinary innovation. She lurks in the glittering shadows between cabaret, burlesque and glam rock, she is in a class of her own.Her resume is as diverse as her repertoire, Woodford Folk Festival, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Feast Festival, Brisbane Festival, Sydney Mardi Gras, Falls Festival, Parklife, Japan Burlesque festival and many more club and theatre shows.
With a rich velvety voice she serves up rock, jazz and opera with an intense heat and conviction which has stunned and surprised audiences around the globe. She frequently tours throughout Australia and has performed in Germany, Holland, France, England, Scotland, New Guinea and has left audiences in stitches in Tokyo and Sapporo dressed as a giant koala. Bertie’s singular sense of humour is infectious, she transcends language barriers with her unique comedic gifts, her wit is sharp, her intelligence shines through her biting banter.
She fronts the delightfully naughty rock band "Bertie Page Clinic" a wicked union of retrograde rockers. Since 2010 they have been winning them critical success in Australia and Europe with releases on french label Beast Records. Each year BPC returns to tour Europe with a special focus on France where they have their strongest fan base. In 2013 they were invited by Forces Entertainment to entertain the troops in Afghanistan. This very last tour before the Australia's withdrawal saw them deliver their rock spectacular to international audiences in Kabul, Kandahar and Tatin Kowt.
Bertie also has a growing profile as a singer-songwriter, working on a number of projects with her guitarist and writing partner John Meyer. They have written work for shows at the Brisbane Powerhouse and Judith Wright Centre which carries a well researched undercurrent of historical content. On Remembrance Day, 2014 they will be a part of a special performance of "The Soldier's Wife" at the Kedron Wavell Services Club. The project has brought together some of Brisbane's respected artists who have heard the stories of soldiers' wives, then created musical work based on their interactions.
Bertie’s wardrobe is jaw dropping, she designs and constructs her own costume pieces and her collection is constantly stocked with exclusive designs created for her by Sydney fashion house Gallery Serpentine, Bertie Page accessories (hats and pasties) are available in their Enmore store.
Bertie has a theatre degree behind her, she is an academic strumpet continuing her extensive studies on feminism corsetry with Bertie Page Clinic's rock-cabaret “Serpentine: Sex, Fetish, Death" which makes its next stop at Adelaide's Feast Festival in November.
And what does the greatest critic of them all have to say?
"Bertie Page is a true vaudeville artiste. She dances, she sings she does ballads and burlesque, she does satire and slapstick and she looks very good whatever she does. She has more talent than inhibitions, and she never takes herself seriously which is why she is SERIOUSLY entertaining."
